Funding for Food Manufacturing Businesses

The government of Australia realises the important role played by agricultural sector and those involved with food manufacturing business in the country. This is the reason manufacturers are provided grants and assistance to help them in the growth of their business and its commercialisation.

Export Market Development Grants

EMDG is a very popular scheme executed by the government to provide financial assistance to companies that are exporting or ready to export their products. Businesses can utilise these funds to market their products to enhance exports. Financial assistance is given for various reasons such as the distribution of free samples, covering expenses of international visits, expenditure of paying a marketing consultant, and expenses on trade fairs and seminars. Eligible businesses can get reimbursement of up to 50% of their expenses on promotion. EMDG is applicable to many industries and food manufacturing units are eligible for assistance under it.

Eligibility requirements

  • Your business must be in Australia
  • Annual income of the business must be less than $50 million
  • You must be exporting or ready to export your products

The last date to apply for a grant under EMDG is 30 November 2020.

Accelerating Commercialization Grants

Accelerating Commercialization is a scheme under which the government of Australia provides financial assistance and expert advice to entrepreneurs and small businesses to take their products to the market. If you are in food manufacturing business, you can take advantage of this scheme and receive financial assistance for commercialisation of your products. Eligible food manufacturing businesses can get funding of up to $5,000,000 under this scheme.  The thing to remember is that Accelerating Commercialisation provides matched funding to support the commercialisation efforts of eligible businesses. Also, your food manufacturing business must have a novel product or service for the customers.

Eligibility requirements

  • Your business must be registered under GST
  • It must have ABN
  • You must have received commercialisation guidance first

Eligible businesses can apply for the Accelerating Commercialisation Grant at any point in time.

Advanced Food Manufacturing (AFM) Grants Program

AFM is a grants program under which the government of South Australia is giving away monetary assistance of up to $30,000 to eligible businesses.  This program is especially for businesses involved with the manufacturing of food, beverages, and wines. The AFM program is sponsored by the government of South Australia and it is supported by Food Innovation Australia Limited. Under AFM, small food manufacturing businesses can apply for a grant.

Eligibility requirements

  • The company must be involved with the manufacturing or processing of food or beverages
  • A majority portion of the business must be operating in South Australia
  • The annual turnover of the business should not be more than $10 million
