Grants to Support Sports and Physical Activity Projects

Grants to support Sports & Physical activity projects are mostly sponsored by the individual state governments in Australia. Most of these grants are aimed at encouraging events and sports that bring in tourists to the state as well as entertain locals. In this article, we will discuss about some of such grants and their eligibility criteria.

One of the grants funded by an Australian state government aims to sponsor major sporting events along with arts and culinary events to attract tourists both national and international as well as engage locals. Applicants should submit their applications 12 months prior to the date of the event. Funding depends on the magnitude of the event and the assessment criteria set by the state government. Co-contribution is required. The program is available on an ongoing basis.  

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Events or competitions related to sports, arts and culinary
  • Applicants should be from the state sponsoring the event
  • Individuals and organizations are eligible for financial assistance under this grant

Another grant funded by one of the Australian state governments aims at sponsoring sporting events that promote the importance of sporting and physical activities within the state. The program is available on an ongoing basis with 12 rounds of funding made available each year. Maximum financial assistance available per applicant is capped at $150,000. However, special events requiring more funds are considered on a case by case basis. Co-contribution is required.

There are three funding categories available under this program:

Event Assistance: Up to $20,000 is available for event organisers seeking support to organise sports events.

Events Development Assistance: Funding of up to $150,000 is available for organisation looking to develop or expand existing sports events.

Event Planning Assistance: Organisations looking to develop strategic event plans can claim up to $20,000 under this category.

Eligible organisations include: National sporting organisations, state sporting authorities, regional sports associations, local government authorities, sports organisers, local clubs and associations, private organisations, not for profit organisations.

One more state funded program aims at helping kids between the ages of 5 to 18 to participate in Sports & Physical activity projects. The main focus behind this program is to encourage kids belonging to low income families take part in community sport. Under this program vouchers of up to $150 are available every year for every successful applicant to register with an approved sporting club. Clubs registered for GST can claim up to $150 per voucher and every voucher is valid for 90 days from approval date. The program is available on an ongoing basis.

Eligibility Criteria:

All applicants must

  • Be aged between 5 to 18 years
  • Be a resident of the state providing the grant
  • Be listed on valid health care card or,
  • Have a pensioners card with customer reference number (CRN)
